Welcome to Rooted in Ramblings

Hello I’m Ava, welcome to Rooted in Ramblings, my little corner of the internet where I share stories, thoughts, and the things that make life feel a bit more connected.
This space is a blend of my many ramblings; travel experiences, honest reflections of my life, the food that makes me happiest (always plant-based 🌿), and the small, meaningful moments that bring me joy.
I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, to the way words can ground us, inspire us, or bring people together. Here, I write about the things that root me: creativity, kindness, cooking, and a deep love for nature and animals.
So whether you’re here for travel tales, a comforting recipe, or just some relatable musings over a cup of tea, I hope you find something that you can connect with :)

For Frankie
Saying goodbye to my sweet boy
Recently we had to say goodbye to our little Frankie, after 16 cherished years of him being part of our family. I will always remember his sweet face and cheeky little personality; he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His favourite person was without a doubt, Mum but other loves of his were his mealtimes, his teddies and his tummy tickles. He loved sitting in the sun, feeling the warmth on his face, and having his little afternoon naps, snoring away.
Though the house feels emptier without him, the memories of his playful spirit, unconditional love, and little quirks will stay with me forever. Frankie may be gone, but the happiness he gave and the love he shared will always remain in our hearts.

Honey Jumped the Gate
-my time in Sri Lanka
I knew I’d make some furry friends during my time in a Sri Lankan dog sanctuary, but never did I expect one to completely steal my heart. Her name was Honey, a sandy-coloured, scruffy little street dog with a wild, vibrant personality and mischievous nature.
In mid-September, I volunteered with The Mighty Roar Project on their Street Dog Rescue programme in Sri Lanka. The sanctuary was home to around 20 dogs that had been rescued from the streets to undergo medical treatment for a visible issue, to then hopefully recover and be released once again into their packs.
The first week included a lot of tears as I came face to face with the reality of the way many dogs are reduced to living in developing countries; many suffering with serious physical disabilities or intense trauma from past abuse. Although settling into this new environment was uncomfortable for me at first, eventually I began to see the joy in the little things, joys like Honey…read the rest here: Honey Jumped the Gate
My Recipe Book:

Curried Chickpea Soup:
A warm fragrant blend of spices and creamy chickpeas – this soup is simple, comforting and full of flavour. Perfect for a cosy lunch or an easy weeknight meal. Check out the full recipe here: Curried Chickpea Soup

Pumpkin Spiced Muffins:
I recently made these pumpkin spiced muffins, using a combination of three different recipes that I found, and adapted it to be fully plant based. The highlight for me is the maple buttercream; it perfectly complements the hint of pumpkin spice and the toasted pecans.
They went down an absolute treat in my house and were mostly all gone within the first day I made it. Click the link below to view the full recipe: Pumpkin Spiced Muffins
